A judicious blend of concepts, theory and practice prepares the teachers to function in a dynamic environment. The curriculum as laid down by the UGC embraces regular classroom sessions, practical exercises, educational excursions, industrial visits, special seminars at prestigious training institutions like the College of Materials Management, a category ‘A’ training institution of the Indian army and Indian Council of Medical Research, peer group teaching, micro-teaching, project presentation etc. The visit to the central jail and the recommendations put forth by the participants of a course are worth a mention. These activities are video graphed, enabling us to display them to the subsequent courses.

Apart from excelling in its prescribed duties, the UGC HRDC at Jabalpur has been innovative in its evaluation pattern of participants and resource persons, hosting its web-site, publications and conducting principal meets every year to familiarize administrators of the higher education system with the philosophy of orientation and refresher courses in order to facilitate the reform in higher education through appropriate modification of the management systems at various levels.

An apex body, the Academic Advisory Committee of our HRDC meets regularly to discuss all academic, financial and other matters relating to the HRDC.

UGC HRDC Jabalpur hosted the UGC ASC Directors meet successfully on the 11th and 12th May 2001. It may be mentioned here that it was for the first time that any ASC in M.P. was conferred the honour of conducting the Directors Meet. The meet was held at the crucial juncture of completion of 9th plan and approval of the ASC scheme in the 10th plan. During the conference our ASC was rated amongst the top five ranking ASCs out of all the UGC ASCs in India.

As one of the most satisfying landmarks, our HRDC moved into it’s own building in Jan 2005, after years of sharing the university administrative building. The ‘State of the Art’ architecture housing the administrative and academic blocks exuding appropriate ambience sprawls over more than 20,000 sq ft at a picturesque location at the university campus. The Director, and the staff shared the moment of pride with the Vice Chancellor, the university teaching and non teaching staff as the new building was inaugurated by Shri Ravinandan Singh, the then Advocate General of Madhya Pradesh, in presence of various Principals and other dignitaries.

Having emerged as one of the major centers of excellence in the academic life of the state and country, it is a stimulating academic platform for shaping a healthy academic interaction amongst teachers and thinkers. Plans are underway to strengthen the research and publication activities and to offer more programmes especially in the areas of Environment, Human Rights, Women’s development, and Computer Applications. Seminars/workshops/conferences on strategies for survival in higher education, examination reforms, continuous quality improvement programme (NAAC), counselling guidelines and mental health of college students, research methodology, industry-academic linkages, globalization of higher education and so on have been relevantly planned for the coming year. Making optimum use of its IT infrastructure and knowing how the installation of ‘SMS Impact’ is in the pipeline.
